Midrand is located in the Johannesburg metropolis in Gauteng. It is set midway between the Witwatersrand and Pretoria – hence the name Midrand. This bustling suburb is build completely around the N1 highway, making it popular with businessmen who need easy access to highway links.
Midrand is known to be one of the 8 tourism nodes in Johannesburg and boast large-scale industries such as textile and motor vehicles. The Gauteng Provincial Government predicts that much of Gauteng will be city by 2015 as a result of the increasing growth of Midrand over the last decade.
Although many consider Midrand to be a commercial hub only, the area retains a country life-style. Large domestic properties and agricultural smallholdings, stables, bridle paths, dairy herds, vegetable gardens and orchards continue to lend a rural feel to the area.
